Die nördlichste Strassenverbindung zwischen Norwegen und Schweden folgt einer der wichtigsten Eisenbahnrouten im Norden Europas - der Kiruna-Narvik Railway, auf der ganzjährig das in schwedischen Minen abgebaute Eisenerz zum Seehafen von Narvik transportiert wird um von dort die Stahlwerke zu beliefern. Von der rauhen Fjordküste geht es über die Riksgrenze, ein beliebtes Ski Angel- und Jagdgebiet hinunter zm Torne Träsk - einer fast ebenso beeindruckenden Seen/Flußlandschaft und Quellgebiet des mächtigen und ungezügelten Torne Älv - dem wilden Grenzfluss zwischen Schweden und Finnland, der bei Torneo in den Bottnischen Meerbusen mündet. Südwestlich des Sees liegen der Nationalpark Abisko und das UNESCO-Naturerbe Laponia mit der von weitem erkennbaren Gebirgsformation Lapporten - der Tür zu Lappland.

Davor noch ein kleiner Abstecher zum Dividalen Nationalpark im norwegischen Hinterland.

Nein - aber man kann es vom Ausichtsberg Luossavaara aus sehen ; )

Wir waren schon ein halbes dutzend Mal dort - und jedesmal hat es entweder geschneit oder geregnet - auch im Sommer.

Neben dem Torne Älv und dem Pitea Älv ist der Kalix Älv einer der letzten ungezügelten Wildwasserflüsse Nordeuropas. Überall sonst haben die Norwegern und Schweden schon vor Jahrzehnten auf saubere Energien gesetzt - und was hier im Überfluss vorhanden ist, ist Wasserkraft. Jedenfalls bisher - noch.

Der Kalix stürzt hier am Jockfall mit enormem Getöse ca. 9 m in die Tiefe:
